Continuing on our success from last year, OVBI Pittsburgh presents to you Jagruti 2015. This is the second time OVBI Pittsburgh is having this great Republic Day event. In 2014, Jagruti started as an idea in a coffee shop in Pittsburgh and went on to become the face of OVBI in places as far as London and Tokyo. This year we are back with a new theme, renewed focus and energy and with some new and dynamic leaders and members in the team.
Overseas Volunteer for a Better India – OVBI has taken up a bold initiative – Project Udaan. There are many underprivileged children who are born and brought up in red light areas in some parts of India. A neighborhood in Kolkata is particularly affected by this menace. Girls as young as 12 are forcibly pushed into flesh trade and end up living a life of unfulfilled dreams, unused potential and low self esteem. OVBI has taken upon itself to rescue these young girls, rehabilitate them from the mental trauma and finally help them lead a better, fulfilling life where they can not only breathe in the open air with a smile on their face but can also contribute to the economy.
At its heart the issue really is that of Women Empowerment. Just imagine what these young girls with dreams in their eyes can do for the world if they are given the upbringing of a normal child.
This year OVBI Pittsburgh is having a fund-raiser for Project Udaan as its central theme. Come out and support this noble cause and make a real positive difference in someone’s life. Your small contribution will go a long way in helping someone out of misery and bringing on their face an everlasting smile.
